Building Resilience with Refugees

More than 1.5 million refugees currently live in Uganda, a country that welcomes displaced people by giving them a small plot of land, the right to work, and access to local schools and healthcare. While Uganda’s refugee policies are among the world’s most progressive, many refugees still spend over a decade in the country and face an uphill battle to find stable livelihoods.

The European Union Emergency Trust Fund (EUTF) Response to Increased Demand in Government Service and Creation of Economic Opportunities in Uganda (RISE) Project is organized by a consortium of nonprofit organizations and spearheaded by Action Against Hunger. Together, we launched six projects to build resilience, food security, and stability among refugees and the communities that host them in Uganda.

Action Against Hunger’s partners include the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), Welthungerhilfe (WHH), PALM Corps, and local communities in the Arua, Adjumani, and Yumbe districts in northern Uganda. Since 2019, we have helped nearly 150,000 refugees and members of host communities to improve their lives.
